- Ryan Houston is back after a RS year and looking to catapult UNC to the top of the ACC
Every day between now and the kickoff of the FBS season next Thursday night, I will be releasing not only a Top 20 ranking per position for 2012, but also a top 10 per position for 2013.
On 9/1 we will roll out our brand new top 250 for 2012 and a top 100 for 2013 along with a new mock draft! Without further ado, here are our top 20 RB’s for the 2012 Draft Class:
- Cyrus Gray-Texas A&M
- Tyron Poole-Tennessee
- Brandon Bolden-Ole Miss
- Doug Martin-Boise State
- Dan Herron-Ohio State
- Isaiah Pead-Cincinnati
- Lance Dunbar-North Texas
- Davin Meggett-Maryland
- Vick Ballard-Mississippi State
- Marc Tyler-USC
- Jeff Demps-Florida
- Montel Harris-Boston College
- Ryan Houston-UNC
- DJ McNorton-North Dakota State
- Jason Ford-Illinois
- Travaris Cadet-Appalachian State
- Bryce Beall-Houston
- De’Vion Moore-Missouri
- Mike Mayhew-North Carolina A&T
- Nate Eachus-Colgate
-Two Texas A&M players to lead the way? Honestly it shocked us a little too, but the Aggies are going to be dynamic on offense this year and its going to be because of the ability of Cyrus Gray to keep teams honest.
-After Gray and Poole I see a rather large drop off in talent, wouldn’t surprise me to see only 2 backs taken in the first two rounds of the draft.
-Some of the mid-level players we really like are guys like Vick Ballard (9), Ryan Houston (13), and Jason Ford (15)
-Watch a few of these small school backs to see what they can do this year, McNorton (14), Cadet (16), Mayhew (19), and Eachus (20) could all be primed for monster years.
2013 Top 10:
- Trent Richardson-Alabama
- Edwin Baker-Michigan State
- Andre Ellington-Clemson
- Bernard Pierce-Temple
- Knile Davis-Arkansas
- Chris Polk-Washington
- LaMichael James-Oregon
- Sam McGuffie-Rice
- Zach Line-SMU
- Roddy Jones-GT
-Richardson like Luck is the unquestioned #1 and until his injury Knile Davis was the unquestioned #2.
-Edwin Baker takes over the #2 role despite being limited in his size. He runs hard and actually uses his shorter frame to his advantage, displaying great balance through the hole.
-Don’t get us wrong we really like the top 5 guys on my list, but the bottom 5 may have the potential to be just as good. You have the big play ability of McGuffie and James to go with the grinding style of Line and Polk, finished off with the speed of Jones.
2012 FB Rankings:
- Devon Ramsay-UNC
- Evan Rodriguez-Temple
- Cody Johnson-Texas
- Joe Halahuni-Oregon State
- Joe Suhey-Penn State
- Chad Diehl-Clemson
- Jermaine Robertson-Arkansas State
-Ramsey is the clear cut #1, but we think Evan Rodriguez and Jermaine Robertson may offer the most versatility at the position.
-Penn State continues to churn out FB prospects as Joe Suhey is next in line. Silas Redd will get most of the press in Happy Valley but take notice of who is blowing the holes open for him.
2013 FB Rankings:
- Zach Boren-Ohio State
- Lonnie Pryor-FSU
- EJ Epperson-Ole Miss
- Kendall Gaskins-Richmond
- Eric Brietenstien-Wofford
-Lonnie Pryor and Zach Boren will have two years to battle for the #1 spot, right now we prefer Boren but we like Pryor’s upside more.
-Eric Brietenstein is a terrific RB option at Wofford but if he hopes to make it in the NFL, he better learn to block better.
Schedule:
8/24-QB
8/25-RB/FB & WR
8/26-TE & OT
8/27-OG & OC
8/28-DE & DT
8/29-OLB &ILB
8/30-CB & FS
8/31-SS & ST
9/1-Top 250 (2012) & Top 100 (2013)
