BBD’s Top 20 WR’s for 2012

Jones saw a nice rise in the final preseason rankings

Every day between now and the kickoff of the FBS season next Thursday night, I will be releasing not only a Top 20 ranking per position for 2012, but also a top 10 per position for 2013.

On 9/1 we will roll out our brand new top 250 for 2012 and a top 100 for 2013 along with a new mock draft!  Without further ado, here is our top 20 WR’s for the 2012 Draft Class:

  1. Michael Floyd-Notre Dame
  2. Ryan Broyles-Oklahoma
  3. Jeff Fuller-Texas A&M
  4. Dwight Jones-UNC
  5. Brian Quick-Appalachian State
  6. Nick Toon-Wisconsin
  7. Juron Criner-Arizona
  8. Greg Childs-Arkansas
  9. Chris Summers-Liberty
  10. Jermaine Kearse-Washington
  11. Joe Adams-Arkansas
  12. Derek Moye-Penn State
  13. Chris Owusu-Stanford
  14. T.Y. Hilton-FIU
  15. Jarrett Boykin-Virginia Tech
  16. Deonte Thompson-Florida
  17. Danny Coale-Virginia Tech
  18. Marvin McNutt-Iowa
  19. DeVier Posey-Ohio State
  20. LaRon Byrd-Miami

-Two FCS guys in the top 10 WR’s…We’re just saying…Let’s see what happens in week 1.

-Despite everybody else telling us we’re wrong, we still will continue to rank Michael Floyd as our #1 WR and that’s because we feel like he is the most NFL ready. He has the NFL body, he is a physical WR who works his way down the field, he works all parts of the field, and has very reliable hands.

-#2-#14 are almost entirely one big toss up, it all depends on what you prefer in a WR.

-Look for Danny Coale (17) to have a meteoric rise late in the season on teams draft boards, he will get the Wayne Chrebet, Wes Welker comparisons.

-T.Y. Hilton (14) is the name to know, an explosive athlete who is dangerous in multiple ways.

-We really like Marvin McNutt’s potential but we are worried that with a new QB and more attention coming his way he could see his numbers slip.

2013 WR Top 10:

  1. Alshon Jeffery-South Carolina
  2. Justin Blackmon-Oklahoma State
  3. Mohamed Sanu-Rutgers
  4. Russell Shepard-LSU
  5. Roy Roundtree-Michigan
  6. Rueben Randall-LSU
  7. Tavarres King-UGA
  8. TJ Moe-Missouri
  9. Chad Bumphis-Mississippi State
  10. Denard Robinson-Michigan

-We were asked a few weeks ago where we would of put Alshon Jeffery had he been in the past draft class and our answer was right behind AJ Green and in front of Julio Jones.

-There are already multiple reports surfacing that Mohamed Sanu (3) has no intention of returning to Rutgers for his senior season.

-Tavarres King (7) is a guy almost everybody is expecting to step up with AJ Green now gone, it’s a big year for him and its going to determine his stock.

-Chad Bumphis is the name on this list that people are going to see and go “huh?” If we are right in our prediction that Mississippi State (and more importantly QB Chris Relf) is going to do big things this year, then expect Bumphis to be a big part of that.

Schedule:
8/24-QB
8/25-RB/FB & WR
8/26-TE & OT
8/27-OG & OC
8/28-DE & DT
8/29-OLB &ILB
8/30-CB & FS
8/31-SS & ST
9/1-Top 250 (2012) & Top 100 (2013)

So you tell us, what do you think about our rankings? Are we off, are you we way off? Love them, hate them or indifferent? Leave us comments!

One Response to “BBD’s Top 20 WR’s for 2012”

  1. Zach Clary says:

What’s that about McNutt’s numbers slipping? He’s the number 11 receiver in the nation right now and Iowa doesn’t throw the ball as much as other teams. He’s got size, speed, hands, and intelligence from playing QB prior to making the move to receiver. He already has 8 touchdowns on the season which is tied by Justin Blackmon who is supposed to be a much more prolific receiver. McNutt also has the longest TD of the season of 88 yards, and has broken the Iowa record for career touchdown receptions as a receiver. Having him at #18 is at best foolish and to say that Michael Floyd is more NFL ready is a joke. Iowa plays a pro-style ball control offense which should make McNutt one of the most NFL ready receivers available in the 2012 draft.
