Film Room Session: FIU v. Arkansas State

WR T.Y. Hilton was on display last Tuesday night

This was the first Sun Belt Tuesday battle of the year and it was supposed to feature two high powered offenses but instead we got a bit of a sloppy game that saw more stalled drives that touchdowns. Overall it was a good opportunity to scout a number of Sun Belt prospects and here are the reports on how they did.

FIU
WR T.Y. Hilton
-High points ball
-Goes up and gets it, plays above his size
-Drop
-Struggled with a bad hammy and it affected his impact
-Took the top off the coverage
-Beat the zone defense up the seam for a TD, nobody can run with him

 DE Tourek Williams*
-Very strong
-Held up well at the POA
-Needs to get better at shedding blocks by using his hands
-Lacks many pass rush moves
-Doesn’t have the ideal athleticism you want from a 43 end
-Williams does doe a good job washing down the line to make plays

 LB Winston Fraser*
-An absolute tackling machine, he was all over the place
-Had great recognition skills
-Flowed well to the ball
-Classic read and react LB who we want to see get a little more aggressive at filling the hole

 S Jonathan Cyphrien*
-Poor angle on Aplin TD run
-Solid tackler
-Wraps well in the open field
-Shows the proper breakdown form when tackling

Arkansas State
QB Ryan Aplin*
-Threw a poor pass behind the WR and ended up being an INT
-Athletic
-Can take off on busted plays and make something out of them
-Got his team into good field position before the half by using his legs
-Showed off good awareness in knowing how much time was on the clock
-Nice arm strength, wish we could of seen more of this over the course of the night
-Was more effective as a runner than as a passer on this night

WR Josh Jarboe*
-Should have had a TD pass but it got ripped away at the last second
-Struggled to get separation against tight coverage

WR Daryl Frampton
-Was locked down all night by FIU CB Jose Chesseborough
-One catch and showed off good quickness to take the crossing route up field

DE Brandon Joiner
-Showed a nice closing burst
-Was effective in pursuit all night at Carroll got out of the pocket
-Delivered a few big hits on the QB
-Did not do a good job on contain and allowed Carroll to escape the pocket easily

DT Dorvus Wood
-Kicks outside to DE on passing downs
-Showed good quickness off the ball, really did a good job pressing the gaps and making running play redirect
-Not strong enough at the POA to hold his ground
-Was overly aggressive in trying to time the snap count, jumped offsides
