DT Charles Deas-Shaw
Weight: 336 lbs.
Projection: 7th Round
Grade: 5.3 (Grading Scale)
Deas was a 4 star recruit coming out of HS in Florida, he initially committed to LSU but due to eligibility issues never enrolled there…Deas eventually ended up at Division II Shaw which has become a well known haven for top tier DL prospects who decide to move down a level…Deas has dominant size that is ideal for the 34 defense…we like him as a 34 NT right now but we think he could also slide outside to the 34 DE spot…has a good build that is well distributed…looks quite muscular and not at all flabby or out of shape…he possesses excellent strength and gets good push into the pocket…takes on the double team very well and doesn’t give up any ground…has an underrated first step that when timed properly can get into him into the A gap and behind the OG and OC before they are ready…is a three down lineman and we saw him play multiple drives in the HBCU Bowl where he would be for 7 or more plays per drive.
Still learning how to properly use his hands…struggles at times to beat the double team…we would like to see him fire off the ball with more consistency…has a tendency to get too high off of contact, must keep his pad level low and drive through the blocks…some more work is needed in his footwork, we saw him get flat footed once engaged…doesn’t have a lot of change of direction or chase ability…if he can learn to use his hands better we’d like to see him then work on washing down the line to make plays that aren’t run right at him.
