CB Trumaine Johnson Scouting Report

CB Trumaine Johnson-Montana

Height: 6’2

Weight: 205 lbs.

Grade: 6.9 P (Grading Scale)

Draft Projection: Round 3

Strengths:

Johnson is a big bodied CB…He’s long and lean and has the athletic ability to make plays all over the field…does a good job sitting back in zone coverage and reading the QB…he excels when he is able to keep the play in front of him… breaks on the ball very well….his size allows him to have an even larger range in which he can make plays…has enough to speed to stick with most WR’s…if he moves to FS he could be the ideal CF style SAF who watches the QB and makes plays on the ball…rumors of his run-in with the law proved to be false…does a good job high pointing jump balls and isn’t afraid to go get it.

Weaknesses:

Struggles some with his transition when he has to turn and run….doesn’t have much experience with playing press coverage…shows some hip stiffness which may lessen his versatility…needs to get stronger, too often he will allow WR’s to be physical with him and win the battle for the ball…backpedal is sloppy and needs to be cleaned up to improve his fluidity…doesn’t locate the ball as well as we would like over his shoulder…most of his plays come when the play is in front of him, when he has to turn his back to the play he gets into trouble.
