DE Ronnell Lewis Scouting Report

DE Ronnell Lewis-Oklahoma

Height: 6’2

Weight: 244 lbs.

Grade: 7.1 U (Grading Scale)

Projection: Round 1-2

Strengths:

A passionate football player who loves to leave it all on the field…a coach’s dream with his willingness to play special teams….has an explosive first step…love the way he comes off the ball showcases speed and power that make you want to watch it over and over again…never stopping motor to get after the QB…closes very quickly…has experience playing in a stand up or hand down role…has more advanced hand use than most DE prospects who use their speed rush a lot…can gain leverage off on contact and has the ability to disengage…good awareness to recognize that he’s not going to get to the passer and get his hands up into the passing lanes.

Weaknesses:

For all his physical gifts the production has never been there for Lewis…he is an explosive athlete but does not have the plethora of pass rush moves to make OT’s pay for cheating towards his speed rush…is not strong enough at the POA to keep bigger OT’s from overwhelming him…looks clunky trying to turn the corner tight, hips appear stiff and rigid…doesn’t look fluid dropping into coverage…must show ability to make more plays v. the run and the discipline to maintain the backside contain…developing an effective counter move could solve many of his pass rush woes.

Notes:

Lewis v. Tulsa

Lewis v. Texas
