Previewing The Combine: Running Backs, Wide Receivers, & Tight Ends

Orson Charles should be the dominant TE in Indy

Here is a full list of the TE participants:
Dwayne Allen-Clemson*
Orson Charles-UGA*
Drake Dunsmore-Northwestern
Michael Egnew-Missouri
Coby Fleener-Stanford**
Ladarius Green-Louisiana-Lafayette
James Hanna-Oklahoma
Cory Harkey-UCLA
David Paulson-Oregon
DeAngelo Peterson-LSU
Nick Provo-Syracuse
Beau Reliford-FSU
Emil Igwenagu-UMass
Evan Rodriguez-Temple
* Early Entrant into 2012 NFL Draft
** Not working out due to injury

Here is our estimate at who will be the top workout warriors from the TE position:
40 Yard Dash-Orson Charles 4.51
3 Cone Drill-Orson Charles
Short Shuttle- Orson Charles
Bench Press- Cory Harkey 34 reps
Vertical Jump-Ladarius Green 42”

In case you couldn’t tell by our predictions we think Orson Charles will win most of the athletic competition at TE. He’s a stand out athlete whose combine may need to be this good if he measures in as low as some people are estimating.

Dwayne Allen is our #1 TE prospect and we have him there because of his ability to block, catch, and run routes. We expect him to be in the top three of every athletic test, and he may just win a few of them.

Two guys who we need to show us something are DeAngelo Peterson and David Paulson. Both are ranked fairly high on boards but we aren’t sure exactly why. Both are pass catchers first who need to show us they have that next level athleticism before we move them up our board.

Another guy badly needing a good combine is Michael Egnew from Missouri. Questions exist about his toughness and willingness to take the big hit. He can’t answer those questions here but showing off some athleticism will at least help make those questions go quiet for a little while.

The two sleepers here are Ladarius Green and Beau Reliford. Both are big guys who know how to catch the football and run. Green could potentially be a WR at the next level and we think he will be the one to push Charles. Reliford is a guy we like a lot as an H-back similar to what Travis Beckum does for the Giants.

Tomorrow we’ll have both sides of the lines previewed as we enter Day 1 of the NFL Combine which will be the Orientation.
