RB LaMichael James Scouting Report

RB LaMichael James-Oregon

Height: 5’9

Weight: 195 lbs.

Grade: 6.3 X F D (Grading Scale)

Projection: 4th Round

Strengths:

James has plenty of speed to burn as he makes turning the corner look easy against even the most athletic of LB’s…he also may be the quickest back in this draft as he is able to make defenders look silly in the open field…seems to find an extra gear when in the open field to pull away…he’s an accomplished receiver out of the backfield, displaying soft hands…has great vision in the open field for setting up his blocks…shows the patience in his running style allows the play to develop instead of just rushing forward..Very quick acceleration able to get to full speed in only a couple of steps…explosive through the hole.

Weaknesses:

There are serious doubts about James’s ability to run between the tackles or ever become a feature back in the NFL…he has below average size and split the carries his entire career at Oregon…Does not run with necessary power to get through most arm tackles…has durability concerns because of how much he’s been nicked up in his time at Oregon…Has some off the field red flags following a domestic violence arrest in 2010…struggles to find the hole in traffic…Without a clear running lane James is a very limited runner, he doesn’t offer much in terms of pass protection or special teams so he will likely be seen as only a complimentary back in the NFL.

Notes:

James v. Wisconsin-Rose Bowl

James v. USC

James v. Stanford

James v. LSU

  1. Alfred Garcia says:

LaMichael James is like Darren Sproles but a bit bigger. Whether he has the same winner attitude is the only question.Great 2nd rounder for a team in need of big plays. With Spiller, not a need for Buffalo.
