The Buffalo Bills have brought in their first QB of this draft season as they will welcome QB Kirk Cousins this weekend. The Michigan State Spartan had a fantastic senior year that was probably best remembered for the epic duel he had with Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson. Cousins was the victor the day and went on to lead his Spartans to a bowl win over the Georgia Bulldogs in this years Outback Bowl.
Overall Cousins is considered to be in the running with Brandon Weeden for that top spot among the 2nd tier QB’s. He has a solid arm, with good accuracy, and velocity. Cousins throws a tight spiral that seems to cut through the wind pretty well. He displays some nice touch but has had a tendency to lose some accuracy when he was going to deep earlier in his career.
He overcame some adversity early in his collegiate career as he was initially asked to split reps with then QB Keith Nicol. Eventually Cousins beat Nicol out at the QB position and took it over full time. Nicol moved to WR and Cousins entrenched himself as the starter for the remainder of his career.
Cousins ended his senior season going 267 of 419 (63.7%) for 3,316 yards with 25 TD’s and 10 INT’s. At the NFL Combine he showed up very well displaying some of the best mechanics when throwing the ball and putting the ball on point consistently.
