The their 2nd pick in the 5th Round the Bills selected LB Tank Carder who we project to play OLB on the weak side. Carder was one of the Bills first announced pre-draft visitors so its clear their interest in him has been high for a while.
Carder moves pretty well for a LB, he has plus instincts and knows how to read and react to running plays. The thing we like about him compared to Bradham is that he is willing to attack the line of scrimmage and make plays in the backfield. Carder is a warrior on the field, he has a non-stop motor and is always willing to play through the whistle. His mentality is one of constant attacking and looking for the next hit.
At times this does cause Carder to play a bit out of control, and he will over pursue or lose backside contain but for the most part its a very good thing. Biggest concern with Carder is his size and weight, he’s a bit undersized which is why he needs a 43 Cover 2 style scheme. He has to get stronger and show better ability to deal with blockers. If he can do that you have a very good and versatile LB on your hands.
While we project Carder to WLB, he can also play MLB. There will be some learning curve because he comes from a very non-traditional style of defense in a 4-2-5.
