The Bills will get a visit from a second QB this off-season as they will host Arizona State QB Brock Osweiler. Osweiler just this weekend announced he has received a Green Room invitation to the month’s NFL Draft. It’s important to note that while no QB has last pasted pick 24 (Aaron Rodgers-Green Bay) while sitting in the Green Room, the NFL just last year expanded the invitation list to include some Day 2 prospects. Osweiler remains uncommitted on his invitation and will wait to make a decision.
Osweiler as a QB is an interesting specimen, he has an ideal build at 6’6, 242 lbs. He has better athleticism than most people will give him credit for. He also throws a very catchable ball, and has shown the ability to accurately place the deep ball while at Arizona State. His arm strength is among the best in this class, and was named a team captain despite limited time starting.
There are some concerns with Osweiler, specifically related to his consistency and limited amount of starting snaps. A 15 game starter in college Osweiler didn’t display ideal footwork or the ability to read a defense. One would hope that with time and more repetition this would naturally improve. Also in his favor is that of any pro team the Bills are the closest system to the collegiate spread style system Osweiler comes from and therefor his transition for Buffalo may be easier.
Its interesting to note that the Bills scouts were confirmed at two Arizona State games this season, and also the Bills met with Osweiler at the NFL Combine. The Bills were also one of the confirmed attendees at the Arizona State Pro Day.
Right now we value Osweiler in the 4th Round range, he is our 7th ranked QB prospect.
