DT Akiem Hicks-Regina (Canada)

Height: 6045

Weight: 318 lbs.

Grade: 6.3 (Grading Scale)

Strengths:

Has fantastic size for a prospect coming out of the CIS…has the size and frame to play in a variety of systems and at a variety of positions…ideally we see him as a 43 DT, or a 34 DE…Displayed good quickness off the ball both at the CIS level and as the East West Shrine Game…Has the strength to hold up at the point of attack and does a good job anchoring down and holding his ground…Hicks is at his best when he’s allowed to shoot low and fast against bigger and slower interior lineman…Displays an extremely effective rip move that allows him to blow through the arms of OG’s and get into the backfield for a big play…was a highly recruited JUCO prospect who signed with LSU initially.

Weaknesses:

Is very raw in terms of the level of talent he’s been playing against…CIS is not comparable to the NCAA given the massive difference in both size and talent that exists between the two…Hicks biggest thing to work on is just developing his technique…he’s fallen into the nasty habit of relying only on size and athleticism because it worked so well in the CIS, this was exposed at the Shrine Game…Hicks must work on his hands when it comes to shedding blocks, as of now if he’s able to be engaged he has trouble getting out of the OG’s grasps…He also seems to give up on the play after this happens which will get him benched in the NFL…some character concerns about the LSU fiasco but its nothing major and not a red flag.
