Bills v. Rams – Live Blog Thoughts

Today the Buffalo Bills are taking on the St Louis Rams in Buffalo and we’re here to give you some live thoughts as the game happens. Below you will find our notes on the game and we will post these notes at the end of every quarter.

-Lots of pressure early on Fitz. RT and interior OL giving up a lot.

-McKelvin solid first drive in coverage, working in the slot.

-The Bills must attack the Rams aggressive defense.

-Right side getting no push in the running game

-Both Sam Young and David Snow beaten consistently

-The D has to remain aggressive all game long.

-Donald Jones two early targets could be a factor later on in the game as they continue to cover Stevie Johnson .

-Cody Glenn just got owned by Michael Brockers on the inside, rookie on rookie

-Fitzpatrick already feeling the pressure falling off throws with a clean pocket

-Use a screen passes and TE’s will be key to the offense moving the ball with poor offensive line play

-Rams are stacking the box with the safety, we need to find the time to take a shot deep.

-Fitzpatrick has been hit on multiple snaps on every drive so far this game.

-Alex Carrington having a huge first quarter.

-McKelvin continues to play good coverage in the slot and came off the edge with a great blitz on the blind side.

-Has to be at least 5 hits the star that Fitzpatrick is taken in the first quarter.

-Huge blitz pick up by Fred Jackson allows Fitzpatrick time to find Chandler down the seam.

-Play action fake allows Bills time to attack defense deep to Stevie Johnson, perfect play call and design.

-Yet another turnover this time in the red zone fumble by Fred Jackson.

—END 1st Quarter—

-You can’t say enough thus far about McKelvin’s coverage ability.

-St. Louis linebackers are now keying on running backs coming out of the backfield looking for the screen pass. Gailey has to adjust the scheme.

-Poor special teams recognition, let the punt bounce and see where it goes.

-Great stick by Nigel Bradham

-Anybody who thinks that Mario Williams was dogging it with his wrist injury earlier in the year is clearly very, very wrong he is an entirely different players after surgery.

-For all his turnovers Fitzpatrick has been hitting the tight windows today was rather impressive consistency.

-Love the end around call but please let’s not have a quarterback out as a lead blocker.

-The interior of the OL is giving up pressure at the will of the Rams..

-David Snow needs to learn how to re-anchor and stop the DT on the bull rush.

-Great coverage from Ron Brooks there deep against Gibson.

-What a great way for Gilmore to get his first career interception returned for a TD, pending penalty.

-Sad that Kyle Moore’s holding penalty will bring back Gilmore’s touchdown but still up credit Gilmore for finding the ball after it was tipped and return it for a TD.

-You have to get points off a turnover with just over a minute left inside of the St Louis 50 yard line.

-At some point you have to take a shot down the field and stop the rain passes less than 5 years young line of scrimmage in the under 1 minute situation.

-Immediately they go to Chandler for 10 yards down the middle of field which has been there all day long.

-Why would you hand off to Jackson with under 30 seconds left with only 2 timeouts the play calls continue to be frustrating for fans.

-Chan Gailey’s refusal to abandon the screen despite the defense’s clear indication that they are keying on it has and will continue to cost this offense valuable points down in the red zone.

-Always nice to get points but not even taking a shot into the endzone has to be lingering question going to the half still up only one score.

—End of 2nd Quarter—

-Rookie mistake from Gilmore extends the drive, defense has to step up and get a big stuff.

-Defense must find a way to get off the field on these long drives.

-St Louis is attacking soft coverage, Bills need to get more aggressive when it comes to pass coverage.

-Bradford starting to pick up both rookie CB’s, Gilmore and Brooks have been beaten this drive by Brandon Gibson.

-Drive got extended on penalty by Gilmore with hands to the face. Rams scored a touchdown the Bills now trail 7-6

-All CJ Spiller needs is a little seam to make a big game happen.

-Spiller’s speed is evident again as he beats Janoris Jenkins around the corner.

-The Bills needed to challenge the call on the field that was not a fumble but instead an incomplete pass.

-TJ Graham is beginning to emerge as a legitimate option for this offense.

-Great play action play on the goal line to free up Lee Smith for an easy touch down

-The Bills missed the extra point due to a poor snap that may come back to hurt us later in the game

-Having viewing issues, seem to be worked out now

—End of 3rd Quarter—

-Not sure I wouldn’t go for it here field goal still only puts up 1 score and length could be an issue with the wind.

- I definitely would not punt here but the field positions very nice.

-Gilmore got burned by Gibson and it got the Rams out of their endzone.

-Good job by the defense to recover and force a big punt.

-Huge play by Gilmore to get back and potentially break up the pass to Chris Givens deep down the middle of the field.

-Every time McKelvin touches the ball on return he’s a threat to score.

-Fred Jackson’s injury on the replay does not look good

-Steven Jackson is running extremely hard right now the defense needs to shut him down before he rips off a long run

-If the Bills are going to make a playoff run they have to start by making a stop on this drive.

-Bills defensive backs continue to get beat when they’re in zone coverage v. man.

-George Wilson has to make one of these two plays he has to pick the ball off.

-Where did the defensive line pressure go? We haven’t seen it since the first half .

-Ron Brooks beaten by Brandon Gibson again this time for a touchdown that looks like it will win the game for the Rams.

-That was maybe the easiest 2 pt conversion I’ve seen all season long.

-This is now or never time for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

-Huge first pass deep down the field to Chandler.

-Both Cordy Glenn and Sam Young beaten like rented mules to give up the sack on Fitzpatrick.

-I have no words to describe that final play, this is embarrassing given the way the team played for 3 solid quarter…absolutely embarrassing
