Prospect Preview: Belk Bowl

The Belk Bowl features two teams that you don’t traditionally associate with postseason play but before you dismiss this game as a weak bowl game consider a few things. Cincinnati is a well balanced team who loves to use George Winn to pound the rock and then go up top to one of three receiving targets. Duke has one of the top Senior QB’s in the country in Sean Renfree and will look to find WR Conner Vernon consistently to help shut down the Cincinnati pass rush.

18 TE Travis Kelce 6’5, 260 lbs.
Kelce is a big and physical TE who has more than enough athleticism to fit into our style of offense. He will line both on the line and in the slot during this game. He’s a good target down the seam and really gives LB’s fits as they try to cover him one on one. He’s a recent Senior Bowl invitee and should really do well there. Right now you’re looking at a Early Day 3 pick who could work himself into Day 2 with a strong Bowl Game and off-season.

11 QB Brandon Kay 6’3, 233 lbs.
32 RB George Winn 5’11, 210 lbs.
7 WR Kembrell Thompkins 6’1, 192 lbs.
6 WR Anthony McClung 6’0, 172 lbs.*
76 OG Austen Bujnoch 6’5, 288 lbs.*
99 DE Dan Giordano 6’3, 260 lbs.
9 CB Dominique Battle 5’11, 192 lbs.
21 CB Camerron Cheatham 5’9, 188 lbs.
26 SAF Drew Frey 6’3, 212 lbs.

19 QB Sean Renfree 6’4, 225 lbs.
Renfree is a classic pocket passer that likes to stand tall and deliver the ball down the field. He’s not going to offer you much in terms of mobility or even escapability but when he’s given time to sit back and step into his throws he’s one of the best in the business. Renfree has been tutored by David Cutcliffe who is the same man who worked with both Eli and Peyton Manning and he certainly shows signs of that pedigree in his game. Renfree will be playing in the Shrine Game in a few weeks and could use a big game to build the excitement for his ability down there.

2 WR Conner Vernon 6’1, 200 lbs.
84 DE Kenny Anunike 6’4, 260 lbs.
82 DT Sydney Sarmiento 6’3, 300 lbs.*
6 CB Russ Cockrell 6’0, 182 lbs.*
4 SAF Walt Canty 6’0, 218 lbs.

Editor’s Note: Both QB Brandon Kay (Cincinnati) and DE Kenny Anunike (Duke) are technically seniors but both have received medical RS and will be returning next season.

Prediction: Cincinnati 31 Duke 21
