Prospect Preview: Bell Helicopter Armed Services Bowl

WR Sam McGuffie will need to be the difference maker for the Owls (Photo: US Presswire)

This is not a game that’s going to grab you based on just that wow factor but both Rice and Air Force should provide us with a well coached and executed game. Both teams will look to establish their run games as they both enter as Top 30 teams in Rushing Offense nationally. The team that wins may very well be the team whose defense can step up and get a big stop.

Air Force
OLB #9 Alex Means 6’5 240 lbs.
Alex Means was a guy we spotlighted way back in the preseason as a player to watch and he has made up look good. He leads the Falcons in almost every defensive category and has been a leader on the field. Means has great size on the outside but must show the ability to be fluid in space and the athleticism to get to the edge.

FB #25 Mike DeWitt 6’1, 220 lbs.

Rice
WR #2 Sam McGuffie 5’11, 200 lbs.
The former HS youtube sensation started his collegiate career with the Michigan Wolverines but eventually left the program and ended up down in Houston with Rice. Until this year it appears McGuffie career was a bust, but he’s emerged this year as a WR threat for the Owls. With his quick feet and sharp cuts in the open field.

TE #88 Vance MCDonald 6’4, 260 lbs.
TE #82 Luke Wilson 6’4, 250 lbs.
CB #15 Phillip Gaines 6’0, 185 lbs.*
SAF #24 Paul Porras 6’1, 200 lbs.*
K #9 Chris Boswell 6’2, 210 lbs.*

Prediction: Air Force 28 Rice 17
