Prospect Preview: Military Bowl

QB David Fales will be looked at to lead the Spartans without their head coach (Photo: US Presswire)

San Jose State will be without coach Mike MacIntyre who has left the program to go to Colorado. Even without MacIntyre┬áthe Spartans are still led by the best QB people have never heard of in David Fales. Fales will be looking to hook up with WR Noel Grigsby who Bowling Green will need to find a way to cover. Bowling Green will try and force pressure on Fales up the middle with Chris Jones along with taking away the running game with ILB Dwayne Woods. Also don’t sleep on QB Matt Schlitz who can beat teams with his arm and feet.

San Jose State
10 QB David Fales 6’3, 220 lbs.*
Fales has become a bit of an internet legend in the Twitter world as the hashtag #EpicFales can be seen whenever he plays. His following is well earned as he has been the spark this Spartan team needed to get into the post-season. Fales ranks as one of our top 2014 draft prospect but with his coach leaving the program some are wondering if he could leave early. A big game here against a Bowling Green secondary that has been shaky at times could be the push he’s looking for.

82 TE Ryan Otten 6’5, 245 lbs.
The senior TE hasn’t gotten all the love he deserves being out on the West Coast but he’s one of the biggest playmaking TE’s in the country. Otten has soft hand and long arms which he uses to pluck the ball out of the sky. He’s got great body control and is more than willing to go up over the defender to make a catch. He’s got a great relationship with Fales and if he’s got one on one coverage look for the ball to head his way.

23 WR Noel Grigsby 5’10, 175 lbs.*
Grigsby can absolutely fly and he’s quickly become one of our favorite players to watch with his speed and quickness. His routes still need some work but they’ve gotten better this season. He’s got strong hands and should be a dynamic slot option in the NFL.

2 RB De’Leon Eskridge 5’10, 215 lbs.
76 OT David Quessenberry 6’5, 295 lbs.
75 OG Nicholas Kaspar 6’4, 285 lbs.*
43 DE Travis Johnson 6’3, 245 lbs.
31 OLB Keith Smith 6’1, 230 lbs.*
36 ILB Vince Buhagiar 6’3, 238 lbs.*
21 CB Bene Bewikere 6’0, 192 lbs.*
25 Ronnie Yell 5’10, 188 lbs.
81 SAF James Orth 6’2, 206 lbs.
10 P Harrison Waid 6’1, 175 lbs.*

Bowling Green
91 DT Chris Jones 6’1, 292 lbs.
While the Bills don’t have a huge need at DT as far as starters go they do have a need at depth and that’s where Jones could fit in well. He’s got violent hands and quick feet that allow him to be successful as a undersized DT. He likely has to play in a 43 set moving forward and could be effective learning from a guy like Kyle Williams who plays with a similar style.

7 QB Matt Schilz 6’1, 214 lbs.*
82 TE Alex Bayer 6’3, 254 lbs.*
5 ILB Dwayne Woods 5’11, 228 lbs.
24 SS Jerry Gates 5’10, 214 lbs.*
95 P Brian Schmiedebusch 6’3, 226 lbs.*
