In the Poinsettia Bowl you have the 7-5 BYU Cougars playing the 9-3 San Diego Aztecs. BYU has an incredibly stout defense that ranked third in the nation this year. They have a very tough front 7 that causes a lot of turnovers. On offense they can be inconsistent but ended the year by scoring 40 or more points in three of its final four games.

For the Aztecs they are looking to wrap up one of their best seasons in school history in what is basically a home game. They, like BYU, started the season a little slow but have been on a roll to end out the year. They are a balanced team on both offense and defense. The key player for them though is RB Adam Muema (Soph), if he gets going early the Aztecs are tough to stop.

Here are the prospects to watch:

BYU
2 WR Cody Hoffman, 6’3, 215 lbs.*
Hoffman at 6’4 215 has the measurable and the skill set of a #2 WR on the NFL level. He has excellent hands and body control to go with being a good route runner on the college level. The Bills offense values route running and football IQ in its WR position, Hoffman could be a nice addition along side Stevie Johnson in the current Bills offense.

3 OLB Kyle Van Noy, 6’3, 235 lbs.*
Van Noy is a 3 down LB that makes play all over the field in both the run and the pass game. He can cover RB’s and TE’s, which is something that the Bills have been desperate to find at the LB position for a decade now. Van Noy will also interest teams in that he can play both inside and out in multiple defenses

47 DE Ezekiel Ansah, 6’6, 270 lbs.
76 OT Braden Hansen, 6’6, 307 lbs.
4 OLB Uona Kaveinga, 5’11, 233 lbs.
44 MLB Brandon Ogletree, 5’11, 228 lbs.
75 OT Braden Brown, 6’6, 300 lbs.
98 DT Romney Fuga, 6’2, 318 lbs.
7 CB Preston Hadley, 6’0, 200 lbs.
9 SAF Daniel Sorensen, 6’2, 215 lbs.

San Diego State
88 TE Gavin Escobar, 6’6, 255*
One thing you will notice about Escobar is he continually makes very difficult catches. He is athletic for the position and being 6’5 255 he has near perfect size for what NFL teams look for in the TE position. He has a knack for finding the soft spot in defense and getting in eye line sight of his QB. The Bills do have Chandler as the starter but could use some depth behind him and Escobar would work well with what Chandler already brings to the table

2 CB Leon McFadden, 5’10, 190 lbs.
McFadden has decent size at 5’10 190 for a CB to go with good ball skills. He is the type of player that is good at everything but great at nothing. He can play both man and zone with the same comfort level along which will appeal to teams. He has a mid-round grade right now and the Bills will be interested in that they have had a revolving door across from Gilmore all year

34 RB Walter Kazee, 5’9, 190 lbs.
19 WR Brice Butler, 6’3, 205 lbs.
18 WR Dominique Sandifer, 6’0, 195 lbs.
68 OG Nik Embernate, 6’4, 300 lbs.
66 OG Riley Gauld, 6’5, 300 lbs.
44 ILB Rob Andrews, 6’2, 220 lbs.
12 CB Josh Wade, 6’0, 190 lbs.

Prediction: It’s no secret this teams don’t like each other and I expect a tight hard fought game. I think the BYU defense however will be too much for SDS to overcome and because of that BYU takes it 20-16
