Prospect Preview: Cotton Bowl

Can Landry Jones quiet the critics and dominate the Aggies? (Photo: US Presswire)

The Cotton Bowl is one of the most historic and prestigious bowl games around. It also features one of the best match-ups of the season as the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas A&M Aggies will do battle. The Aggies feature a dynamic duo at OT along with the Heisman trophy winner at QB. The Sooners meanwhile feature a senior led team starting at QB and trickling all the way down to the defense.

Texas A&M
76 OT Luke Joeckel 6’6, 310 lbs*
Joeckel is quite possibly the best prospect in this draft and he’s definitely our #1 OT on the board should he choose to declare after this game. Joeckel offers a blend of size, athleticism, and strength that you rarely see come around and he should dominate an Oklahoma defensive front that has struggled to generate consistent pressure off the edge.

75 OT Jake Matthews 6’5, 305 lbs*
Joeckel’s partner in crime is Matthews who mans the right side and who some believe to be a better fit on the left. He’s a massive man who has near herculean strength. I have yet to see Matthews even struggle to move his man off the line  and he’s probably the best run blocker in the country. Matthews struggles more with speed rushers but Oklahoma lacks those elite caliber athletes so expect him to dominate.

33 RB Christine Michael 5’11, 220 lbs
25 WR Ryan Swope 6’1, 206 lbs
61 OC Patrick Lewis 6’2, 312 lbs
94 DE Damontre Moore 6’4, 250 lbs*
45 LB Steven Jenkins 6’2, 220 lbs*
10 LB Sean Porter 6’2, 230 lbs
11 LB Johnathan Stewart 6’4, 244 lbs

12 QB Landry Jones
While we aren’t the highest on QB Landry Jones this will be an important game for his evaluation. He’s always been a QB we’ve considered good but not great. He seems to struggle with pressure more than most QB’s and you can expect the Aggies to be bringing the heat in this one. Jones will need to make quick decisions and accurate reads if he hopes to win back some Big 12 pride.

26 RB Damien Williams 6’0, 208 lbs*
33 FB Trey Millard 6’1, 256 lbs*
4 WR Kenny Stills 6’0, 190 lbs*
19 WR Justin Brown 6’3, 209 lbs*
69 OT Lane Johnson 6’6, 303 lbs
97 DT Jamarkus McFarland 6’1, 288 lbs
90 DT David King 6’4, 286 lbs
92 DT Stacy McGee 6’3, 299 lbs
6 CB Demontre Hurst 5’9, 185 lbs
14 CB Aaron Colvin 6’0, 182 lbs*
1 SAF Tony Jefferson 5’11, 212 lbs*

Prediction: Texas A&M 35 Oklahoma 20
