Welcome to the NFL’s version of Christmas! Free Agency opens up at 4pm today and every NFL team has their wish list set and is ready to get to work to land the biggest and best additions to their squads. With that in mind we wanted to make our own wish list for this Free Agency period.
With Ryan Fitzpatrick cap hit dropping after 4pm today we feel it’s only a matter time before he is formally released. That will leave two QB spots open on this team, one for a draft pick and one for another veteran to contend with Jackson. Josh Johnson and Drew Stanton both fit the mold Marrone looks for in QB’s who can move who have nice arms and can throw the ball accurately. Neither should cost the team much.
The Bills need to add a power running option to the duo of Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller. Not to mention the injury history both backs have had and it’s time to start adding better quality depth than Tashard Choice. All four of these options offer the power abilty along with soft hands out of the backfield which make them dangerous and versatile weapons.
With McIntyre entering FA I just don’t see the Bills brining him back, I’d prefer a FB who offers a little more than just blocking and that’s what both Felton and Jones bring to the table.
I only think we will sign one WR this offseason but I think its one of the three, all are young FA’s who are just not leaving their rookie contracts. All have had big games in their past and appear to be close to breaking out. Barden offers the size the Bills lack while Murphy and Stroughter offer more speed.
The Bills need a more versatile weapon at TE and Dustin Keller is the perfect fit with his ability to line up wide or inline. Walker isn’t a bad second option but he’s not the same athletic weapon that Keller is. Keller may not fit the Bills price range and Walker isn’t a bad fall back option.
Whether the Bills move Glenn inside to replace Levitre or keep Glenn at LT I think they need to go after an OT who can take over at RT. The line was ok last year but will need to get better. Chris Hairston and Erik Pears are average OT’s who are better in rotation then as starters. Vollmer gives you a LT or RT option while Loadholt is going to clear out the right side play after play and should spring CJ Spiller for some big runs.
Neither Boothe nor Peterman could come in and replace Levitre but either player is capable of at the very least being a starter and being serviceable. Boothe is the more intriguing option due to his age and athleticism. Marrone likes OL who can move and Boothe fits that mold better than Peterman.
Versatility is the key to this defense and I would move to quickly resign Kyle Moore due to his ability to play DE in either the 43 or 34 system. He’s a big DE who can move and plays with power. I thought we’d resign him before he even got a chance to hit the market. Jean-Francois is a 34 DE who can work inside in the 43. He’s been groomed in the 49ers system and looks ready to take over a starting spot and put up a big year.
Paul Kruger may be the tops of everybody’s FA list this year but the Bills have shown in the past that they will do what it takes to get their guy. Kruger doesn’t have any history with Pettine but he played in a very similar system in Baltimore and will be very familiar with the scheme and terminology Pettine will use. Sidbury is a bit of an unknown, he was a pass rush freak coming out of college but was put into a 43 system in Atlanta. In a 34 where he can stand up and be more disruptive he may be more successful.
The Bills badly need to figure out the interior of this LB group and adding the recently cut Williams would do a long way to solving that. Williams is a versatile defender that would add some leadership and flair to a LB group that is pretty ho hum. Siler is a player I’ve liked since he came out of Florida because all he does is make tackles. He’s an experience 34 ILB who can come in on a cheap deal and make consistent plays.
Even with Leodis McKelvin getting re-signed earlier this week the Bills still need to add another CB. McKelvin is at his best in the slot so adding a CB who can play outside like DRC or Toler would be ideal. DRC will be looking to regain his former Pro Bowl form while Toler will be looking to break out of the shadow he played under in Arizona.
George Wilson is not going to fit at SS in Pettine’s system. They need a physical in the box SS who can make tackles and function almost as another LB. They did resign Bryan Scott which should help some with those duties but adding a player like Delmas or Chung would do wonders. Everybody wants to talk about Laron Landry as a fit due to his connection but he’s not as good as Delmas or Chung.
Well there is my Wish List, so what is yours?
