Today West Virginia’s QB Geno Smith and his talented WR duo took to the field to stand out among the 28 NFL teams in attendance. The Buffalo Bills sent both GM Buddy Nix and Assistant GM Doug Whaley to the Pro Day. Smith did well by all reports going 60 of 64 passing with two drops and two over throws.
NFLDraftScout.com analyst Jeff Reynolds said that the Smith was the most impressive with his “downfield touch and accuracy, zip on the move and balance throughout his compact release”. Now most Pro Day performances can be taken with a grain of salt since its QB’s throwing v. no defense to WR’s he’s spent over a year already working with and this one was no exception. The interesting tidbit here came from Smith’s announcement that he would be visiting 10-12 teams pre-draft and his confirmation that the Buffalo Bills would be one of them.
On March 22nd Geno Smith will be in Buffalo to meet with the team and tour the facilities. The Bills get 30 pre-draft visits and Smith will obviously be one of them. If you remember correctly the Bills have not had a 1st Round pick in the last two years not come to OBD pre-draft and there is no indication that they plan to stop that practice.
Its still a stretch to think Geno will definitely be there at 8, but with teams like Kansas City and Arizona grabbing QB’s through Free Agency the likelihood is increasing. We currently rank Geno Smith as the #1 QB in the 2013 Draft and the #3 overall.
