When the Buffalo Bills made EJ Manuel the #16 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft they slammed the door shut on what everybody considered to be their biggest need since Jim Kelly retired. The Bills now have four QB’s on their roster and likely won’t be looking to draft another one. So the question becomes what does a team that has seven remaining picks including three tonight do? Well that’s what we are here for, below are our Top 5 player remaining per outstanding need.
The Bills hole at WR are massive, they could go WR two or three times in this draft and every Bills fans would be shaking their head in agreement. Look for them to target a big bodied WR who can run with the first 2nd Round pick. Here are the best five remaining who fit that mold.
Scott Chandler may or may not be ready for camp and even if he is the Bills could still use an upgrade and some added depth. Taking a TE might not be near the top of the needs chart but if one falls the Bills could pounce early.
With Cordy Glenn settled into the LT spot it’s time to add some depth and figure out exactly what we are going to do at RT. The Bills could use road grader at RT but the new Doug Marrone system calls for quicker and more athletic lineman who can zone block.
Andy Levitre is in Tennessee and this draft saw four OG’s go in Round 1. The Bills may need to move quickly to find a replacement with the depth already so limited.
1. Larry Warford-Kentucky
2. Brian Winters-Kent State
3. Earl Watford-James Madison
4. Alvin Bailey-Arkansas
5. JC Tretter-Cornell
Call it defensive end, call it OLB, I don’t care the Bills need to add some athleticism, speed, and rush potential to this defense and they need to do it quickly.
With Pettine’s multiple D sets the Bills will likely need to find another zero gap DT to play behind Branch and allow Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus to work as 5 tech DE’s.
Whether the Bills sign Karlos Dansby in the coming weeks or not this spot is woefully insufficient. The Bills need to find a way to add talent and depth to their inside LB grouping.
No Defensive Coordinator went six DB’s more often than Mike Pettine the last two seasons. I have little doubt at least one CB will be added in this draft class someway and somehow.
While many fans are excited about the prospects of what DaNorris Searcy can this year I am not and I don’t think the Bills coaching staff if either. Look for the Bills to add a big SS who can play in the box and hurt the opposition rushing attack.
Buffalo Bills only Day 2 Mock:
41. WR Justin Hunter-Tennessee
46. DE/OLB Damontre Moore-Texas A&M
78. OT/OG Dallas Thomas-Tennessee
Day 2 is going to be full of fun and excited as the Bills have three picks over Rounds 2 and 3. The Bills currently hold picks 41, 46, and 78. Who do you think they’ll select?
