Buffalo Bills select Dustin Hopkins (6th Round – 177th Overall)

For the second consecutive year the Buffalo Bills have decided that one of their biggest needs is clearly at place kicker. The Bills took John Potter last year in the 7th Round but he never worked out so this year they came back and took Dustin Hopkins in the 6th Round.

Hopkins truly is a phenomenal kicker in terms of a prospect. He has a huge leg (has hit a 56 yard FG in a game) and can kick both the the FG’s and kickoff. He has a career 76% FG percentage and was nothing if not clutch for FSU over his career. He could easily unseat current Bills kicker Rian Lindell.

However he’s also a kicker and Lindell is still more than serviceable.  Taking Kickers as draft picks in back to back years is not how you build championship caliber football teams.

If Hopkins unseats Lindell the Bills will have the 2011 FSU kicking tandem as their starters in Hopkins and P Shaun Powell.
