Prospect Preview: Sugar Bowl

When the bowls were initially announced many looked at this game and figured it would be a blow out as the Florida Gators will take on the Louisville Cardinals. On paper the Gators are the more talented team on both sides of the ball. They have the higher rated recruiting classes, they play in the better conference, and they have the pedigree and tradition on their side. However the Cardinals have two people who I think help equal all of those factors our, Charlie Strong and Teddy Bridgewater.

Looking at the list of prospects to focus on for the game alone makes this Bowl look like a complete mismatch. While Northern Illinois will be counting on Junior QB Jordan Lynch to continue his magical season into the post season, seemingly alone against a Florida State defense that is stacked with draft worthy prospects. If Northern Illinois is to make a game of it, they will have to neutralize Junior Bjoeren Werner, who is likely to be a top 5 pick assuming he declares. N Illinois does catch a break as talented senior DE/Linebacker Brandon Jenkins and Cornellius Carradine will miss the game due to injury. The Huskies are the more motivated team here trying to prove they belong. That may be enough to keep things close, but in the end look for talent to win out. (more…)

The Rose bowl this year presents an interesting matchup that seems very uneven when looking at it. Stanford proved doubters wrong all year long with a suffocating defense and a ground and pound offense. Wisconsin despite heading to there third straight Rose Bowl had an up and down year. They also have to adjust to their coach, Bret Bielema, leaving to coach Arkansas. They do however get a very much adequate replacement coach in Barry Alvarez who is credited in making the program a premier one in the late 90’s and early 2000. (more…)

This is a bitter consolation prize for a Bulldogs team that was primed to play in a National Championship game. On the other side of the ball, you have a Cornhusker team that rose to the top of a lackluster Big Ten conference before getting trounced by Wisconsin. The truth of the matter is that for as highly touted as Nebraska’s defense usually is, they’ve given up far too many points to the strong teams on their schedule. With the exception of Ohio State, Georgia might be the strongest. With Murray leading the charge, the Bulldogs offense should be able to put up points against Bo Pellini’s team and do some damage of their own on the defensive side. (more…)

After a down senior year Devin Taylor need a big bowl game to help repair some of his stock

BBD Editor Matt Elder
This bowl game actually features one of the most intriguing bowl match-ups as it pits LT Taylor Lewan from Michigan against DE Jadaveon Clowney from South Carolina. Clowney is an absolute monster at DE and he’s only a true sophomore. Many people are already projecting him as the #1 pick in next years draft, so how Lewan fares against him will do a lot to potentially help close the gap between he and Joeckel. (more…)
