As the 2014 NFL season draws nearer and early 2015 NFL draft talk is already underway, Buffalo Bills Draft hopes to continue providing insightful, interesting analysis on the Buffalo Bills’ season and the top prospects in college football. With the Bills first of two seventh round picks, the Buffalo Bills continued to add to their linebacking corps by selecting Florida Atlantic’s Randell Johnson. Johnson’s calling card will be utilizing his athletic upside and carving out a niche on special teams. Johnson had a terrific pro day as he clocked a 4.60 second forty yard dash and a 38.5” vertical leap.

Kiko Alonso vs. Sheldon Richardson: Who Should Be NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year?

The Associated Press’ NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting is projected to be a tight race between two AFC East impact players, Buffalo Bills middle linebacker Kiko Alonso and New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson.

The ballots have already been cast, but the winner will not be revealed until this year’s NFL Honors on Feb. 1. Who deserves to win this year’s award? Below, staff writer Ryan Glaze argues Alonso’s case to be the first Buffalo Bill to win the award since Shane Conlan in 1987, while editor Dan Hope explains why his vote would go to Richardson.

Before Brigham Young and Washington take the field Friday night in the Fight Hunger Bowl (more to come), there are two earlier bowl games to watch Friday. The Maryland Terrapins (7-5) and the Marshall Thundering Herd (9-4) will face off in the Military Bowl (2:30 p.m., ESPN), while the Syracuse Orange (6-6) and the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-4) will play in the Texas Bowl (6 p.m., ESPN).

Breaking Down the 9-Way Race for the 6th AFC Playoff Spot

At 4-7 and trailing in the AFC East by four games, making the playoffs isn’t supposed to be considered realistic for the Buffalo Bills.

While there have been 10 NFL playoff teams since 2007 with seven or more losses, only five of those teams have been wild card teams. And there is certainly a big difference between teams who finished the year 9-7 or even 8-8, and expecting the Bills, who have not won consecutive games yet this season, to put together a significant winning streak to secure a playoff berth.

Coming out of Buffalo’s Week 12 bye, however, the possibility should not be ruled out. And that isn’t just blind optimism from a Bills perspective. In the American Football Conference, in which only five teams have winning records, there are still nine teams with a realistic of being the AFC’s second wild card and sixth playoff team.
