“My dad was a construction worker and my mom worked in a factory and I was just a little kid that never combed his hair that loved to play football and play sports.”

Andre Reed never dreamed as a kid that he would make it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. An Allentown, Pa. native who played his college football at Kutztown University in Division II, Reed wasn’t supposed to become one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. But he always strived to make the most of his opportunities.

With the Bills first of two seventh round picks, the Buffalo Bills continued to add to their linebacking corps by selecting Florida Atlantic’s Randell Johnson. Johnson’s calling card will be utilizing his athletic upside and carving out a niche on special teams. Johnson had a terrific pro day as he clocked a 4.60 second forty yard dash and a 38.5” vertical leap.

The Associated Press’ NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting is projected to be a tight race between two AFC East impact players, Buffalo Bills middle linebacker Kiko Alonso and New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson.

The ballots have already been cast, but the winner will not be revealed until this year’s NFL Honors on Feb. 1. Who deserves to win this year’s award? Below, staff writer Ryan Glaze argues Alonso’s case to be the first Buffalo Bill to win the award since Shane Conlan in 1987, while editor Dan Hope explains why his vote would go to Richardson.

Before Brigham Young and Washington take the field Friday night in the Fight Hunger Bowl (more to come), there are two earlier bowl games to watch Friday. The Maryland Terrapins (7-5) and the Marshall Thundering Herd (9-4) will face off in the Military Bowl (2:30 p.m., ESPN), while the Syracuse Orange (6-6) and the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-4) will play in the Texas Bowl (6 p.m., ESPN).
