Preview: Buffalo Bills Limp into Week 4 vs. Baltimore Ravens

The first three weeks of the 2013 NFL season have been a roller-coaster experience for the Buffalo Bills. After hanging tough with the New England Patriots in Week 1, the Bills ultimately let a fourth-quarter lead slip away for a season-opening loss. After a thrilling comeback victory against the Carolina Panthers boosted morale and renewed hope, a sloppy loss to the New York Jets put a damper on the brightening mood.

The Bills limp into Week 4, likely to play without their top three cornerbacks and best safety against the perennially-contending Baltimore Ravens. Bills running back C.J. Spiller and No. 1 wide receiver Stevie Johnson are also both coming off limited weeks of practice due to injuries.

The short NFL season, however, leaves no time for excuses. If the Bills have any shot of contending for a playoff spot this season, they need to find a way to recover quickly and pull off wins.

Evaluating the AFC East’s 53-Man Rosters by Draft Picks

Confession: I’m obsessed with numbers.

Perhaps it’s the Math teacher in me, but numbers intrigue me. Whenever there’s an opportunity to look at things using numbers, count me in.

A few months back here at Buffalo Bills Draft, I examined the draft success of each AFC East team between 2008-2012. Now three weeks into the season, I wanted to evaluate each roster’s 53-man rosters. How many players were actually drafted by their teams or signed by them out of college as undrafted free agents? What’s the breakdown of players by draft round? Which players have provided the most value to their teams?

Let’s take a look at each AFC East team and how their current 53-man roster was built.

AFC East Writers Predict the Division’s Best and Worst

Saturday, September 7th, 2013

The AFC East writers have made some bold predictions, but Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are expected to continue dominating their divisional competition in 2013. (Photo: Andrew Weber — USA Today Sports)

The NFL season may have begun on Thursday night, but the AFC East season begins Sunday. The Buffalo Bills will play the New England Patriots, while the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets will play out-of-conference games (against the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively). To get ready for the season, writers from multiple AFC East sites within the NFL Draft Sites Network took the time to predict how teams and players will fare in 2013.

The respondents are as follows:
Ryan Talbot (Staff Writer, Buffalo Bills Draft) — Poll Writer
Dan Hope (Editor, Buffalo Bills Draft)
Joe Marino (Staff Writer, Buffalo Bills Draft)
Joseph Curtis (Staff Writer, Buffalo Bills Draft)
Glenn Gifford (Staff Writer, Buffalo Bills Draft)
Chad Pullen (Assistant Editor, Miami Dolphins Draft)
Garrett Baker (Assistant Editor, Miami Dolphins Draft)

Which teams and players in the AFC East will thrive? Who will disappoint? Here are our takes on the AFC East in 2013.

Roster Move Rundown: Buffalo Bills Trim Roster To 50 Players With 5 Cuts

Saturday, August 31st, 2013

The Bills released Thad Lewis on Saturday. Currently, rookies Jeff Tuel and E.J. Manuel are the only two quarterbacks on Buffalo’s roster.

The Buffalo Bills have been busy over the last two days. Dan Hope covered Buffalo’s first 18 cuts from Friday, and today the Bills cut an additional five players to trim their roster to 50 players. Buffalo cutting its roster below 53 players should not be considered a surprise, as the team will add recently released players in an attempt to upgrade its roster. Buffalo could use depth at cornerback and along the offensive line.

Saturday’s cuts provided a few surprises that Dan Hope and I missed on our final 53-man roster projections. It’ll be interesting to see which players the Bills add to their roster in the coming days as the team prepares for their Week 1 matchup against the New England Patriots. Without any further ado, here are Buffalo’s five cuts.
