Waiver Wire Pick-Ups

Mike Glennon, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Owned in 6% of Yahoo! Leagues): With Josh McCown out and Glennon having a five-to-two touchdown-to-interception ratio, Glennon would be a good add this week for those needing to replace Drew Brees on bye. Expect him to be a solid QB2 option each and every week considering how unstable their run game is right now and how much they are likely to be playing from behind.

Brian Hoyer, QB, Cleveland Browns (5% Y!): Despite many raving for Johnny Manziel to be the starting quarterback, Hoyer has been better than decent so far for the Cleveland Browns, with more than 1,000 yards passing and a six-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio, despite having few weapons outside of oft-injured tight end Jordan Cameron. When Cameron gets healthy and Josh Gordon returns in Week 12, expect Hoyer to put up even better numbers. He could be a high-end QB2 come fantasy playoffs time.

Branden Oliver, RB, San Diego Chargers (14% Y!): With Donald Brown now concussed, Ryan Mathews out with a knee injury and Danny Woodhead done for the year with a broken ankle, Oliver will be the lead back in San Diego until Brown and/or Matthews get healthy. After he ran for more than 100 yards and scored rushing and receiving touchdowns against a tough New York Jets run defense, he is a must-add who could easily have another great week as he has an easy matchup against the Oakland Raiders.

Waiver Wire Pickups

Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants (Owned in 47% of Yahoo! leagues): A 300-yard, four-touchdown game is not something we will see every week out of Manning, especially since he did this against a weak Washington Redskins defense in Week 4, but it is major improvement over what he had done the first three weeks of the season. It took Manning some time to adjust to the new West Coast offense but now that he seems to be making major strides with it, he is definitely worth a look as a QB flier for those going into more bye week trouble moving forward.

On a positive note, the Bills didn’t lose last week. After seeing their playoff hopes take a serious hit after a last minute loss to the Titans, the Bills entered the bye week needing to make a lot of changes on both sides of the ball. Defensive Coordinator Dave Wannstedt was planted firmly on the hot seat, and Chan Gailey wasn’t too far behind. The Bills had been plagued by poor tackling, mismanaged defensive schemes, and poor play from the quarterback position. If they hope to salvage the season they have to come out of the off week and prove that the coaching staff was able to address these critical issues. Even a loss that shows improvement and competitive fire would be a step in the right direction. (more…)
