Waiver Wire Pickups

Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns, QB (Owned in 22% of Yahoo! Leagues): For some reason, Johnny Football was not named the Cleveland Browns’ starter for Week 14, but another poor performance by Brian Hoyer led to a quarterback change for Week 15, when he will play the Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns’ first-round draft pick this past May, Manziel has an ability to run and throw proficiently, along with weapons such as Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron, that makes him a low-end QB1 with a very high ceiling who is worth owning in leagues with the space and/or need at the quarterback position.

Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders, QB (Y!: 7%): Another rookie quarterback, Derek Carr went up against a tough San Francisco 49ers defense and pulled out the upset victory while not throwing a single interception. He threw for three touchdowns and 254 yards in the effort, showing his vast improvement from the beginning of the season. Despite not having a good arsenal of weapons, Carr has made do with what has been given to him and made the most of it. He is building chemistry with tight end Mychal Rivera (see below) and also working with other targets like running back Marcel Reece. Carr has a very high ceiling and is a firm QB2 for this week despite another tough matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jonathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers, RB (Y!: 40%): Finally cut loose for a week from DeAngelo Williams, Stewart put up great numbers in an unexpected blowout of the New Orleans Saints. Running for 155 yards and a touchdown put him as one of the best performers at the running back position this past weekend. If Williams can’t suit up again with his finger injury, expect Stewart to be the bell-cow again and have the chance to put up a similar performance. He has a great matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and is a strong FLEX play this week at the worst. Go get him if you need any help at the RB position.

Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers: Week 2 Live Game Thread

FINAL THOUGHTS: What a way for Buffalo Bills rookie quaterback EJ Manuel to win his first game. Down six points with 1:38 remaining in the game, Manuel showed incredible composure in moving the Bills down the field. Most of the passes were short, but Manuel was able to get the ball to his open receivers.

At one point, it looked as though the game was over after Manuel threw an interception. The play was negated, however, as Stevie Johnson, Manuel’s intended receiver, was interfered with by Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly. After a nice run by Manuel, the quarterback found Stevie Johnson wide open in the end zone with two seconds remaining.

Manuel gets the game ball on offense as he went 27-of-39 for 296 yards with one touchdown and one interception. C.J. Spiller led the team in rushing with 103 yards on 16 carries and Stevie Johnson led the team in receiving with 111 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.

Defensively, Mario Williams set a new team record with 4.5 sacks on Cam Newton. Williams could have had another sack or two, but was held consistently. This game was by far Mario’s best as a Buffalo Bill. Rookie Kiko Alonso also had a great game with ten total tackles (9-1), one interception and one sack. Buffalo did a fantastic job of holding the Panthers to field goals when the Panthers were given a short field.

The Bills move to 1-1 and have plenty of momentum as the team gets ready to play the New York Jets in Week 3. After a win like this, there is plenty to feel good about as a Bills fan.
