As one responsible for covering Buffalo Bills news, the last two days alone have felt like a week. Between a bevy of roster moves and injuries, the Buffalo Bills have made no shortage of moves over the past two days, and not much of it has been positive.

The weekend/Monday got off to a start when the Bills lost their most preseason game to the Washington Redskins in a 30-7 rout Saturday. The injury bug also hit the Bills during the loss. Potential starting quarterback Kevin Kolb, who suffered a concussion that is, according to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, potentially career-ending. The Bills’ top cornerback, Stephon Gilmore fractured his wrist and is out for 6-8 weeks.

The Bills also lost another starter, right tackle Chris Hairston, for the entire season when they placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list Monday.

In response to Kolb’s injury, the Bills added two veteran quarterbacks to the roster by signing veteran free agent Matt Leinart and acquiring Thaddeus Lewis in a trade with the Detroit Lions in exchange for inside linebacker Chris White.

The Bills also had to make cuts to get their roster down to Tuesday’s 75-man limit. The Bills released five players Monday, most notably wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers.

Here at Buffalo Bills Draft, we brought you full coverage of all of the roster moves and injuries and how they affect the Bills, while we also looked back at the team’s disappointing preseason loss and projected possibilities for the team’s regular-season roster. You can take a look at all of that through the links below.

As the Buffalo Bills work on trimming their roster down to 75 players, the Bills’ official website announced the release of the following five players Monday: wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers, defensive back Dominique Ellis, cornerback Jumal Rolle, wide receiver DeMarco Sampson and center Ryan Turnley.

The headlining name among the cuts is Rogers. While few deny Rogers’ talent, the wide receiver went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft. When the Bills signed Rogers, many thought the team had found a diamond in the rough. At training camp, Rogers flashed his ability from time to time. However, head coach Doug Marrone noted last week that Rogers simply did not show consistency at camp.

As we head into the tail end of the preseason, the battles for the final roster spots on the Buffalo Bills’ 53-man roster are starting to heat up. The return of free safety Jairus Byrd, continued improvement of tight end Scott Chandler and Chris Hairston’s lingering injury have altered the face of the roster a bit, but there are still decisions that need to be made.

Many of the best hints at what those decisions will be found in the lineups for Game 3 of the preseason against the Washington Redskins. Commonly thought of as a dress rehearsal, the third preseason game is usually a good indicator of which players have the coaches’ faith. That makes it an especially important game for players like the ones below who need to restore some of that lost trust.

Buffalo Bills Roster Projections: Making the Case for Da’Rick Rogers

On Monday, Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 released his projection for the Buffalo Bills’ 53-man roster. On Thursday, BBD editor Dan Hope released his projection for how the Bills’ depth chart will look this season. On neither projection will you see the name Da’Rick Rogers. Both Buscaglia and Hope project that the undrafted rookie wideout will be cut by the Bills.

This is a mistake. In fact, this is a mistake that the Bills absolutely cannot afford to make. Let me explain why.

The 1982 classic album Combat Rock by The Clash had numerous hits. One of my favorites was the classic song “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” I found myself thinking about this chorus as I walked back to my car following the Buffalo Bills’ 20-16 preseason victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.

Roster decisions for the Bills coaching staff will be difficult. Coaches may be echoing the chorus of the Clash hit as they try to cut their roster down to 53 men. Many players improved their status with the team on Friday; others did not fare as well.

In our second installment of “5 Up, 5 Down,” we will again look at players who both improved and hurt their status with the Buffalo Bills during the most recent preseason games . With two preseason games left, the roster picture for the Buffalo Bills is starting to become a little clearer.
