Waiver Wire Pickups

Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders (Owned in 4% of Yahoo! Leagues): The young gunslinger is perhaps the only glimmer of hope for Oakland Raiders fans. After throwing four touchdowns against a very tough San Diego defense, he is one of the better options as a No. 2 quarterback for the coming bye weeks. He is building a connection with his bevy of wide receivers and has the chance to put up top-15 numbers every week from here on in.

Carson Palmer, QB, Arizona Cardinals (30% Y!): After sitting out for more than a month with a nerve injury in his throwing shoulder, Palmer returned Sunday against the Washington Redskins and revitalized the Arizona Cardinals’ passing game by throwing for 250 yards. Arizona loves to throw the ball, and Palmer has good amount of weapons. Pick him up as a streamer quarterback option for bye weeks.

Friday, May 9th, 2014

The first round of the 2014 NFL Draft didn’t go nearly how I projected it would—in fact, only Jadeveon Clowney and Jason Verrett landed in both the team and pick slot that I predicted—but that hasn’t stopped me, apparently in a draft-induced state of lunacy, from updating my projections for all 68 selections to come on Day 2.

The draft only gets harder to project from here on out, especially with some of the enticing that remains on the board, but there are many team/player combinations remaining in the draft that make a great deal of sense.

I don’t recall a draft with more mixed opinions, projections and grades than this year’s, which should make for an exciting draft in May that is full of unpredictability. With one of the deepest draft classes I have evaluated, there is talent to be had in every round and ample opportunity for teams to fill holes and acquire talent.

The wide receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks took center stage on Day 2 of the on-field portion of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday, with the receivers’ light shining the brightest of the trio of positions.

In one of the deepest wide receiver classes in recent memory, several top prospects solidified their draft status, second-tier players made a push up the board, and some late-round guys had excellent on-field showings.

With the Senior Bowl and other major all-star games in the books, draft boards are beginning to take shape before the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine is held in February.

While predicting draft picks and presenting scenarios is interesting, this mock draft is not about that. I am putting on my general manager hat and selecting the player I would take at this point in time if given the opportunity.
