2014 NFL Mock Draft: Joe Marino’s Seven-Round Projections (4/12/14)

I don’t recall a draft with more mixed opinions, projections and grades than this year’s, which should make for an exciting draft in May that is full of unpredictability. With one of the deepest draft classes I have evaluated, there is talent to be had in every round and ample opportunity for teams to fill holes and acquire talent.

2014 Buffalo Bills Pre-Draft Visit Tracker

Friday, April 11th, 2014

As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2014 NFL Draft, they are allowed to bring up to 30 players to One Bills Drive for on-site pre-draft visits. Though it’s dangerous to read too much into those visits for projections, they can be a good indicator into not only what prospects the Bills want to get to know better, but also what schools, positions or types of players the team might be keeping a close eye on.

The Bills brought in three more prospects for visits on Friday, and all of them are realistic fits for Buffalo. Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde would be strong second-round choices as offensive playmakers, while Liberty cornerback Walt Aikens could add size and versatility to the secondary as an intriguing small-school sleeper.

2014 NFL Scouting Combine Impressions: Day 1 (Offensive Line, Tight Ends)

The on-field portion of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine got underway Saturday morning in Indianapolis with workouts by the offensive linemen and tight ends.

The overall athleticism of offensive linemen has seemingly increased each year, and the 2014 class continued that trend with its impressive showing today.

The tight ends were underwhelming as a whole, with a mix of positive and negative notes to surround each player as none of them were able to put together a complete day.

Following my observations, you can also find a few additional notes from BBD editor Dan Hope, along with a link to full combine results.

Nine Possible No. 9 Overall Picks for the Buffalo Bills

The National Football League is officially in its 2014 offseason, meaning that the entire league (well, maybe not quite yet for the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks) is shifting its attention to how it can make its team better for next season.

While free agency and possibly trades will be an important step, there is no bigger opportunity to improve a roster than the annual NFL draft, which will be held May 8-10 this year. The Buffalo Bills, by virtue of their 6-10 record, hold the No. 9 overall selection in the first round of this year’s draft.

A top-10 pick is always a valuable commodity, and the Buffalo Bills sit in a good position. The Bills should have the opportunity to draft a very good talent who provides an immediate upgrade at that slot, and although they have some needs, they have a roster well-rounded enough to have the flexibility to draft for the best player rather than the biggest roster hole.

We won’t know for sure who will be available at the No. 9 overall pick until the No. 8 overall pick has been announced on May 8, but there will be no shortage of speculation around the pick nonetheless. The Bills should be able to come up with nine worthy candidates to be their first-round pick; the following nine options (plus one, see end of page 2) might be their best.

With the Senior Bowl and other major all-star games in the books, draft boards are beginning to take shape before the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine is held in February.

While predicting draft picks and presenting scenarios is interesting, this mock draft is not about that. I am putting on my general manager hat and selecting the player I would take at this point in time if given the opportunity.
