The Buffalo Bills (6-10) traveled to Foxborough to try and defeat the New England Patriots (12-4) for the first time ever in Gillette Stadium, with the hope of ending the season on a high note. Though the Bills were guaranteed a losing season, they had the chance to have a winning record in the AFC East, but they came up short.
Despite Bills head coach Doug Marrone saying he was “110 percent confident” during Week 16 that Manuel would play in the season finale, Manuel did not make enough progress in his recovery to start in Week 17, and backup quarterback Thad Lewis started his fifth game of the season.
Lewis and the Bills lost to the Patriots, 34-20, on a rainy day where the story was Patriots running back LeGarette Blount netting a whopping 334 all-purpose yards for the game. The Bills defense and special teams had no answer for Blount, and that resulted in a loss.
