In an ideal world, every prospect would have the prototypical size and athletic ability that scouts envision to play a given position, but that is far from the case. Despite that, every year rookies who didn’t check an important box still succeed at the professional level. Whether it’s Anquan Boldin and his 4.72-second 40-yard dash dominating at wide receiver, or London Fletcher playing linebacker at a high level for 16 seasons at a height of 5’10″, limited physical traits do not preclude a player from NFL success.

The 2014 NFL draft class has several players who perform well on tape but lack the desired physical tools for their positions.

The wide receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks took center stage on Day 2 of the on-field portion of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday, with the receivers’ light shining the brightest of the trio of positions.

In one of the deepest wide receiver classes in recent memory, several top prospects solidified their draft status, second-tier players made a push up the board, and some late-round guys had excellent on-field showings.

2013 Independence Bowl Prospect Preview: Arizona vs. Boston College

Bowl season is time for games between teams who would rarely match up under normal circumstances. That is the case in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl, or more colloquially the Independence Bowl, which will pit the Arizona Wildcats (7-5) against the Boston College Eagles (7-5) for the first time ever (Tuesday, 12:30 p.m., ESPN).

The story of this game will be the matchup between the FBS’ leading rushers of the past two seasons, Arizona junior running back Ka’Deem Carey and Boston College senior running back Andre Williams.
