The Buffalo Bills weren’t able to come out on top in regulation, but they were able to pull together a win in overtime against the Chicago Bears, on the road, in their 2014 regular season opener.

Buffalo won the turnover battle, three to one, and had overall solid performances from all three of its units: offense, defense and special teams.

What did Buffalo do well to start its season with a one in the W column, and what must it do better to continue winning games and do so without needing overtime? As part of an overhaul to the Buffalo Bills’ linebacker depth chart that included two free agent signings and two draft picks, Keith Rivers signed a two-year, $4 million contract to help improve a position at which the Bills have had very little consistency in recent years.

While Rivers has not lived up to the billing of his selection as a top-10 draft pick, he is a useful player who can bring stability to the defense on a modest contract.
