David vs. Goliath: Buffalo Bills Take On Undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9

As we approach the second half of the season, one undefeated team remains in the NFL. Despite being a surprise to most, the Kansas City Chiefs have surged to an 8-0 start on the back of an elite defense, a ball-control offense and the NFL’s best turnover margin (+12). Although the Chiefs don’t appear as if they are a truly dominant team, they are not giving games away.

The Chiefs will play their Week 9 game Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium against the Buffalo Bills. If the Bills want to start the second half off right (see my review of the season’s first half), they are going to need to make plays and limit their own mistakes, two things that have been hard for them to do so far in 2013.

In case you haven’t heard, there was quite an interesting development during today’s Buffalo Bills game away from Ralph Wilson Stadium. Two credible reporters spotted Flynn on their flight.

It’s not everyday that a team promotes their practice squad quarterback and asks him to start the following week. Yet with starting quarterback EJ Manuel out due to a sprained LCL in his right knee, that’s exactly what the Buffalo Bills are doing this week when Thad Lewis takes the field to play the Cincinnati Bengals. Was Lewis the correct choice for the Bills?

Editor Dan Hope, writer Joe Marino and I discussed whether or not Lewis was the right choice for the Bills this week, what to expect out of Lewis and if the team should monitor the free agent market in case Lewis struggles.

Contrary to coach Doug Marrone’s claim Friday that the Buffalo Bills would look to add a quarterback from “outside the organization,” they are elevating Thad Lewis from their practice squad to start their next game Sunday versus the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced Monday.
