As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2014 NFL Draft, they are allowed to bring up to 30 players to One Bills Drive for on-site pre-draft visits. Though it’s dangerous to read too much into those visits for projections, they can be a good indicator into not only what prospects the Bills want to get to know better, but also what schools, positions or types of players the team might be keeping a close eye on.

The Bills stayed busy with pre-draft visits Tuesday by hosting Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans, USC interior offensive lineman Marcus Martin and running back Jerick McKinnon, bringing their official visit total up to 23 prospects.

With seven players graded in the first round and 11 in the first two rounds, this is one of the best wide receiver classes I have ever scouted. Quality prospects with exciting playmaking potential can be found in each round of the 2014 draft.

Sammy Watkins is the premier talent in the group. He has a bright NFL future ahead of him. His value rivals that of top-tier prospects like AJ Green and Julio Jones, who were both selected in the top six of the 2011 NFL draft.

36 receivers in this year’s class have draftable grades, making this the year for teams to add weapons to their offenses.

I don’t recall a draft with more mixed opinions, projections and grades than this year’s, which should make for an exciting draft in May that is full of unpredictability. With one of the deepest draft classes I have evaluated, there is talent to be had in every round and ample opportunity for teams to fill holes and acquire talent.

The Buffalo Bills have been active in free agency, adding starters and/or depth at running back, tight end, offensive guard, linebacker, cornerback and special teams. The team might still be actively pursuing free agents, as evidenced by Kenny Britt’s recent visit to One Bills Drive, but any signings now will be few and far between, which should mean is adjusting its needs and determining who it should target in this year’s NFL draft.

The wide receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks took center stage on Day 2 of the on-field portion of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday, with the receivers’ light shining the brightest of the trio of positions.

In one of the deepest wide receiver classes in recent memory, several top prospects solidified their draft status, second-tier players made a push up the board, and some late-round guys had excellent on-field showings.
