The Bills took home their first road win against the New York Jets since 2009 on Sunday, trouncing their divisional foes, 43-23, at MetLife Stadium to finish the first half of the season at 5-3. It was a lively contest in which two Jets quarterbacks combined for six turnovers while both teams combined for 11 punts.

The Buffalo defense graded out very well as it had six different players with a takeaway and another four individuals who pitched in for a quarterback sack. The offense failed to capitalize on great field position on a number of possessions, but rallied to receive some decent grades as a couple players broke out for big performances.

The Buffalo Bills didn’t need a second-half comeback in a dominant 43-23 Week 8 win over the host New York Jets. The Bills led the game from cover to cover, forcing the Jets’ two-headed quarterback attack into six ugly turnovers, while Sammy Watkins did Sammy Watkins things, and improved to 5-3 heading into a perfectly timed bye week.

Buffalo now has a two-week preparation period for a game at home against the Kansas City Chiefs, which could make or break their playoff chances when the race comes down to tiebreakers in December. On paper, the Bills will take the big win over the Jets on Sunday, but it will take a better team effort in the second half of the season to keep their current pace of 10 wins.

Winning the turnover battle is one of the surest recipes for winning football games. Winning the turnover battle six to zero paves a clear path to a blowout victory.

That plus-six turnover margin paved the path to a 43-23 victory for the Buffalo Bills over the New York Jets on Sunday, and has put the Bills, who sit 5-3 at the halfway point of their season, in position to contend for a playoff spot in the second half of the year.

The Buffalo Bills will reach the midpoint of their 2014 season on Sunday. Playing the New York Jets on the road, they’ll need a victory to bring a winning record into their Week 9 bye.

Buffalo, at 4-3, is a favorite to win Sunday against the Jets, who are 1-6 this year. While the Bills have had their issues this year, they’ve still been a clearly better team than New York, who carries a six-game losing streak into Week 8. That said, the Bills haven’t beat the Jets in MetLife Stadium since 2009—Rex Ryan’s first year as Jets head coach.

The following matchups and keys for each team will play a big part in determining whether the Bills can reverse that trend.

After seeing on ESPN Gametracker that the Buffalo Bills had turned the ball over three times in the first half against the Minnesota Vikings—only seeing live the Bills’ fourth turnover when Kyle Orton fumbled on a strip sack—I headed back to my apartment just north of Boston with the radio turned off, hoping as a fan of the Bills that they would somehow mount a miraculous comeback. I snuck a peek at my phone at a rest stop on the Mass Pike and saw the game update “FINAL: MIN 16 – BUF 17.”

It’s almost hard to believe that there were reasons for Bills fans to be happy or even quasi-happy about the outcome of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. While the Bills ended up victorious when Sammy Watkins caught a game-winning touchdown from Kyle Orton with just a tick left on the clock to give Buffalo a 17-16 win, questions remain about the team’s ability to contend for the playoffs this season.

How are the Bills supposed to feel after a game like that? What are the expectations for the final nine games? Have they changed?
