Just when I thought I was done with all forms of mock drafts, they pull me back in. The 2014 NFL draft is just one day away, so to celebrate in a sick and twisted way, I mocked the first round of the draft. Using the latest draft talk and look at team needs, I put together my first and only full first-round projection for the 2014 draft.

As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2014 NFL Draft, they are allowed to bring up to 30 players to One Bills Drive for on-site pre-draft visits. Though it’s dangerous to read too much into those visits for projections, they can be a good indicator into not only what prospects the Bills want to get to know better, but also what schools, positions or types of players the team might be keeping a close eye on.

The Bills hosted one player, Alabama offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio, for a pre-draft visit Friday. Kouandjio, who could be among the team’s strongest second-round options if he is available at the No. 41 overall pick, is the 29th player to visit the Bills, leaving them with just one official visit. During the team’s pre-draft luncheon Friday, general manager Doug Whaley said the team “probably won’t have anybody else” in for a visit, as the league’s deadline to host official visits is Sunday.

I don’t recall a draft with more mixed opinions, projections and grades than this year’s, which should make for an exciting draft in May that is full of unpredictability. With one of the deepest draft classes I have evaluated, there is talent to be had in every round and ample opportunity for teams to fill holes and acquire talent.

2014 Outback Bowl Prospect Preview: LSU vs. Iowa

Injured and showing chinks in a usually stellar defense, Les Miles’ LSU Tigers finished 2013 with 9-3 record and a defense that ranked just 45th in the nation. Their offense improved with the maturation of senior quarterback Zach Mettenberger, but after he suffered a torn ACL in LSU’s regular-season finale against Arkansas, the Tigers will need to win a bowl game without him to earn its fourth straight 10-win season.

Iowa, on the other hand, came into the season with no expectations and seemed to be meeting that low bar. Their Nov. 2 loss to Wisconsin dropped them to 5-4, but the Hawkeyes seemed to flip a switch at the end of the season, beating Purdue and Nebraska on the road and coming from behind to beat Michigan at home to finish the year with an 8-4 record. On Wednesday, the Hawkeyes will put their ball control, ground-based offense up against a surprisingly electric LSU offense in the Outback Bowl (1 p.m., ESPN).

Wednesday’s game will be a battle of physicality versus explosion; the only surprise is which one the typically-stout Tigers has become.
