When the Buffalo Bills hired Rex Ryan in January, one thing was for sure: the Bills weren’t going to play it safe with their acquisitions this offseason. That certainly hasn’t been the case so far—especially Friday—when the Bills agreed to terms with former New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

At his best, Harvin can be one of the NFL’s most dynamic playmakers. A 5’11″, 184-pound offensive weapon who ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine, Harvin has a combination of speed and agility that makes him a big-play threat as not only a pass-catcher, but also as a runner and kickoff returner.

These qualities could make Harvin a big asset to the Bills. As a player who can create yardage for himself with the ball in his hands, Harvin could be highly valuable for an offense that has no great options at the quarterback position, and will therefore struggle to be prolific throwing the ball downfield.

With that being said, Harvin has often been more trouble than he is worth, and certainly qualifies as a high-risk, high-reward type of signing for the Bills.

Completing a trade from the past, it was announced today that the Bills will be receiving Seattle’s 5th Round pick which will be #138 or 139 overall. The pick depends on a coin flip that will occur at next week’s NFL Combine. That will give the Bills picks 136 and 138/139 in the 5th Round. It also finalizes all the Bills current picks with nine total in the 2012 draft.
