With seven players graded in the first round and 11 in the first two rounds, this is one of the best wide receiver classes I have ever scouted. Quality prospects with exciting playmaking potential can be found in each round of the 2014 draft.

Sammy Watkins is the premier talent in the group. He has a bright NFL future ahead of him. His value rivals that of top-tier prospects like AJ Green and Julio Jones, who were both selected in the top six of the 2011 NFL draft.

36 receivers in this year’s class have draftable grades, making this the year for teams to add weapons to their offenses.

New Years Eve’s Sun Bowl (2 p.m., CBS) pits two major college programs seemingly headed in diverging directions. Frank Beamer’s once dominant Virginia Tech Hokies (8-4) have fallen on hard times and are mired in mediocrity in the middling ACC. Conversely, in his two seasons at UCLA, Jim Mora has brought the Bruins, formerly a Pac-10 doormat, back to relevance with a 9-3 record this season.

With a young roster loaded with talent, the future looks bright for UCLA. While scouts are likely to flock to El Paso to see star UCLA prospects Anthony Barr and Brett Hundley, a number of other talents will be showcased as well.

The wide receiver position is generally dominated in the draft by underclassmen, but there are plenty intriguing senior wide receiver prospects in the 2014 NFL draft.

Jordan Matthews is the clear No. 1 player of the group, but there are plenty of other prospects who look like solid No. 2 receivers and potential slot guys.

As with all rankings, these are fluid, and wide receiver is a position where names will continue to emerge as the process goes on, especially once underclassmen begin to declare.

UCLA traveled to Nebraska on Sept. 14 in a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s game, which UCLA won 36-30.

UCLA struggled early and Nebraska looked ready to blow out the Bruins, leading 21-3 after capitalizing on UCLA’s mistakes. After the half, however, it was all UCLA, scoring 38 unanswered points to come out victorious 41-21.
