The Buffalo Bills bounced back in Week 15 with a 21-13 victory over the visiting Green Bay Packers in what some fans are calling the biggest win in a decade. There is no doubt it was a monumental victory for head coach Doug Marrone and his staff, as it keeps the Bills’ playoff push alive into Week 16, something fairly uncommon for the Western New York franchise in December.

The Bills defense ruled the day as it shut down the Packers passing game and limited the damage done on the ground on its way to some high grades. The offense once again struggled to punch the ball into the end zone; it will need to get better if Buffalo wants to win out and potentially make the playoffs.

Wow.

A full 24 hours has passed since the Buffalo Bills pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2014 NFL season, handing the NFC favorite Green Bay Packers a 21-13 loss at Ralph Wilson Stadium, but the game still has the feeling of being too surreal for words. The Bills received contributions from all three of their November pickups, but none bigger than a punt return touchdown by Marcus Thigpen and the first two interceptions of Bacarri Rambo’s career.

If you only watch Buffalo Bills football games and don’t pay attention to the rest of the NFL, you wouldn’t know that Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning are considered to be the two best quarterbacks in the league.

Holding Manning without a passing touchdown for the first time in more than four years wasn’t enough for the Bills to score a win over the Denver Broncos in Week 14. But forcing Rodgers into one of the worst games of his career was enough for the Bills to score a 21-13 win over the Green Bay Packers—who came into Week 15 with the league’s longest winning streak at five games—and clinch their first non-losing season (8-6 with two games to go) since 2004.

It’s not a good week for the Buffalo Bills to desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

While the Bills can be glad to return home, still owning a winning record and still sitting just one game back of a wild card spot, their final game in Orchard Park this year comes against the Green Bay Packers, who own the NFL’s longest active winning streak at five games.

No team in the league has been playing better than Green Bay. The Packers have won nine of their last 10 games, a span in which they have outscored their opponents by 14.4 points per game on average.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been both the catalyst and backbone of the Packers’ success. Having thrown 35 touchdowns this year versus just three interceptions, while he leads the league with 8.78 passing yards per attempt, Rodgers has emerged as the clear-cut choice—barring a shocking collapse—to be the NFL MVP for this season.

Rodgers and the Packers offense, which leads the league with 32.5 points per game, has looked nearly unstoppable, especially in recent weeks (they’ve averaged 40.2 points per game over the course of their active winning streak). If anyone is equipped to slow down Green Bay, however, it might be the Bills, especially with the advantage of playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Two franchises that have been known more for losing than winning since the turn of the century, the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns will be fighting to keep themselves in the race for a playoff position when they play each other Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

For the 6-5 Bills, who return home to Ralph Wilson Stadium after playing their last home game in Detroit due to snow in Western New York, this game is one they must win to keep even slim hopes of ending their playoff drought alive before they enter a brutally tough final quadrant of the season. The Browns are in better position than the Bills, as they are currently 7-4 and in a five-way tie for a wild card spot, but they also need victory as they hold no tiebreakers over any other teams in the wild card race.

Both teams have reason to be confident heading into this game, as each was victorious in its last outing, but football is a game of matchups. The following matchups and keys to the game will be deciding factors in how this game—a game more important at this juncture of the season than most for either in recent years—plays out.
