The Buffalo Bills’ process of reducing their roster to the 53-man regular season limit is well underway. The Bills released 10 players Friday, including punter Brian Moorman and defensive tackle Landon Cohen, and also added three to injured reserve, to bring their roster down to 62 men.

During a few hours of extreme humidity at St. John Fisher College on Monday afternoon, I had the opportunity to take in the Buffalo Bills’ second practice of their 2014 training camp.

The team has many new faces and despite the injury to middle linebacker Kiko Alonso, defensive tackle Marcel Dareus’ off-field issues and Cordy Glenn’s mystery ailment, hope still springs eternal for the Bills’ embattled fan base.

Like the classic Clint Eastwood film, the theme of Monday’s training camp observations are The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Buffalo Bills State of the Roster: Offense

After a six-win season in 2013, the Buffalo Bills’ brain trust of general manager Doug Whaley, head coach Doug Marrone and team president Russ Brandon will look to lead the team to improvement in 2014. A major part of that process will play out this offseason as the Bills look to add talent to their roster through the NFL draft, free agency and possibly trades.

The Bills especially need to improve the talent of their offense, which ranked 19th in the NFL in total yards (338.1 per game) and 22nd in points scored (21.2 per game). Still, from quarterback EJ Manuel to left tackle Cordy Glenn and others in between, the Bills have some core pieces to continue building around this offseason.
